Heal your pierced Ears.

Posted in Allergies, Home, Jewelry at 8:54 am by Maggie

Want to heal your pierced ears from earrings allergies, without letting your piercings close up?

First; put away your gold, silver, or steel earrings. It doesn’t matter how much you love them, they are making you sick. Second; clean your ears with pure fresh water and a clean soft cloth only. No detergents, soaps, alcohol, neosporin, anticeptic, or anibacterials. Third; clean only once or twice a day, then carefully but fully pat dry with a clean soft cloth.

To keep your piercings from closing up during the healing process, you must keep an earring in them, just like you did when they were first pierced. Pure Niobium, and Commercially Pure Grade 1 Titanium works! Hoops allow the most airflow to a piercing and are what I recommend for healing.

Niobium and C.P. Grade-1 Titaium can be cleaned with the above directions while in your piercing. Beleive it or not, the average amount of time it takes to heal a piercing following these directions is about 3 days!

Non-Allergenic Jewelry

Posted in Allergies, Jewelry at 10:36 am by Maggie

Yes, NON allergenic. Hypo-allergenic means “less likely to cause an allergic reaction than comparable materials” ie: 18k gold is more hypo-allergenic than 14k gold.

Pure Niobium and Commercially Pure Grades of Titanium are NON allergenic materials. They are pure metalic type elements found on the periodic table. Why? Allergic reactions occur, as moisture leaches chemicals or metal ions into our skin and underlying tissues. Alloys, (or substances composed of a mixture of metals) are especially prone to causing allergic symptoms due to an electrochemical reaction that happens between dissimilar metals in the presence of moisture” (even sweat). [I call this an alloy allergy]

Titanium (Ti) has a non-reactive [non allergenic] nature when contacting bone and flesh. Many surgical instruments, implants, and body piercings are made of titanium & titanium alloys for this reason. Commercially pure (natural) titanium is catagorized into 4 grades. C.P. Grade 1 Titanium is 99.967% (parts per million) pure, with the other 00.033% containing naturally occuring elements of; Nitrogen, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Iron & Carbon. C.P. Grade 2, 3, and 4 have progressively higher quantities of these naturally occuring inpurities. Surgical Implant Grade Titanium is an alloy containing other metals to add hardness and long life to the titanium, often used in human implant surgery. Surgical Implant Grade Titanium is an ALLOY, and therefore is HYPO-ALLERGENIC at best.

Niobium (Nb) To the best of my research, Niobium is 99.999% pure. From those sources who proclaim this, I was not able to find what that other 00.001% is.

Titanium is more readily available on the market today in the form of Earrings, but unless you wear the larger gaged body piercing jewelry, you have to be very careful about the grade of Titanium that you buy. If the source for Titanium earrings does not list what “grade” it is made out of, be sure you can get a 100% money back guarantee if you end up reacting to it.

Niobium is not yet available on the market today. It is available in bulk quantities of wire and tubular form. As an artist, I use these materials to make Non-Allergenic Earrings and other jewelry for those of us with metal & jewelry allergies.

I use Niobium in my Non-Allergenic earring designs as my first choice, with C.P. Grades 1 & 2 Titanium as my second choices. To date, I have not met anyone who can’t wear either C.P. Grade 1 & 2 Titanium, Niobium, or both, and I have served hundreds of people with metal & jewelry allergies.

Nb and Ti elements are very strong but light weight. They cannot be soldered and must be joined with cold techniques, i.e. rivets, nuts & bolts, epoxy, or special settings. Melting these elements to pour into forms would require the capability of heating them to over 4000 degrees!

Jewelry & Metal Allergies

Posted in Allergies, Jewelry at 7:54 pm by Maggie

Jewelry & Other Metal Allergies is Contact Dermatitis.

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology:

“Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin or a rash caused by contact with various substances. The reaction may be an immunologic response or a direct toxic effect of the substance.”

I personally have suffered with much more than rash and inflamation. My allergic reaction has been severe enough to include temporary deformation, cracked and bleeding skin, infection that spreads on and under the skin, thickening of the skin, clear fluid seepage, pussing, and crusty intensely itchy thick flakes on the skin that hurt when I scratch, but I have to.

I’ve also had multiple customers complain of these symptoms and more, with one customer reporting poison ivy type of rash, which is exactly how it feels to me too.

Although allergic reactions can vary from person to person, the most important thing I have learned is to not ignore the message your body is trying to tell you. Although allergies can come and go without reason, the only thing you can do is avoid the allergen. Consider it a toxin to your body, and stay away from it as you would keep your child from fire.
